In this industry I recognized immediately the need for a head lice treatment that actually works. One that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. One that doesn't take days/weeks/months of nit picking or harsh chemicals that DO NOT WORK. Lets be real, no one has time to be stuck in this lice loop. When it comes down to it the BEST way and ONLY way to rid yourself of lice is combing it all out. The Over the Counter head lice products tend to miss the mark. The same old ingredients "renamed" so they can relabel it new and improved, while providing you with the least capable head lice comb on the market in that cute head lice kit. All while being unsafe to use at the end of the day. Its a billion dollar industry projected to increase by 6% by 2030. How is this possible if these treatments actually worked? Almost everyone uses them! Even if they call me!
What kills head lice instantly? No methods have been found to instantly kill head lice. (Combing is the answer)
First off, I do not gate keep here. Our product is made of Apple Cider Vinegar, a peel tea and essential oils. That's it. Very Simple, very effective at what we need it to do. Its purpose is to help release nits from hair strands to make for easier combing. Not to kill on contact or over time. Louse or Lice Bugs attach nit eggs to the hair strand with their saliva. This substance works wonders at holding eggs right in place where they want them. Auntie Uku's Lice Tonic loosens that hold and allows for the easiest combing experience possible. No toxic chemicals. No Olive Oil. (Its a real mess of an option) No sitting at a head lice clinic or head lice salon for hours on hours and paying a thousand dollars. We as Moms need real results, real fast with products we can trust. A head lice treatment that also doesn't break the bank! Please see our blog for more information about combing, DIY options and directions on good combing methods to ensure success with your own D.I.Y lice treatments!
Olive oil is great resource for a lot of lice ladies in this industry, so I might get some hate on this section. Years ago I started out using only olive oil per the company I worked for as that is their treatment process. It has its benefits, sadly I would say they are fewer than expected for the treatment of head lice. It can smother live louse bugs, which is helpful in the sense it slows them down, not in the sense of killing them. Louse or Lice can hold their breath for up to 8 hours. So, smothering can only occurring when having oil applied for longer then that. (i.e. Overnight usually while sleeping) So applying to your head needs to be done in a very specific way. No dry spot can remain, this takes a good amount of oil and its extremely messy. It is very hard to wash out of the hair. Even adding dish soap to your shampoo will not get it all the first few washes. Bedding plus overnight olive oiling, just sounds like a laundry nightmare when you are already in one having head lice to begin with! So why make things harder on yourself? I have also personally experienced combing over and over trying to remove nits that would "slide through the comb" in a sense. Very frustrating for D.I.Yers or professional head lice treatments. Costing time which is too priceless to let slide. The CDC does not have scientific evidence that suffocating head lice with mayonnaise, olive oil, margarine, butter, or similar substances is an effective form of treatment. With all that being said, olive oil treatments are pain staking, messy and can be more then its worth when we have better options available. Its usually recommended to do multiple olive oil treatments to be successful. Up to 14 days every night to ensure any left over nits that hatch will hopefully smothered before it can lay its own eggs. (FYI - Having this type of after care for a professional treatment sounds more like a safeguard to ensure success in treatment if your "professional" left something behind)
"Reminder - CDC's guidance has not changed—you do not need to send students with head lice infestation home early from school. They can go home at the end of the day, be treated, and return to class after beginning appropriate treatment. Nits may stay in hair after treatment, but successful treatment will kill crawling lice. " https://www.cdc.gov/lice/about/head-lice.html
In my opinion, nits MAY NOT stay in hair after a treatment. This would mean it was not successful. Reinfestation will occur after hatching of said nits in 7-10 days after there were originally laid. Only increasing chances of spreading lice further. Combing everything out, both live bugs and nits, fully is the only way to ensure successful treatment.
When starting my company I just wanted to simplify this situation for every client I encountered. I really see all these kids as my own. I take personal responsibility for your head lice infestations and I think I breathe that in to every case I help with. It is really such a complicated and frustrating task now in 2024 to deal with a head lice infestation. Seems crazy right? We have so many issues now, why is head lice still one of them? Why are so many people struggling with this? The typical OTC treatments and even prescriptions treatments are not effective. (Ask your pediatrician) Lice have gained an immunity to some of these chemicals and missing any nits will result in reinfestation. The truth is Big Pharma has their claws in this industry also. A one billion dollar industry actually, with the top 10 gaining from this contribution being all big global pharmaceutical corporations. The same corporations who are under fire for poisoning us with many other avenues to continue to increase those same profits. These are global companies with large amounts of funds and unlimited resources. Yet they have unsatisfactory results and they still have a ton of money in their pockets to show for it. Please hear me when I say. I am different. I want better for us all. I hope that my product can make it to those who need it most in this world, I will be working for the rest of my life to try and make that happen. I believe educating yourself is the purest form of self love. Knowledge is power and lets take our power back!
